Before the assembly elections to be held in Assam, all political parties are trying their best to ensure their victory. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed a huge election rally in Titabar assembly constituency of Assam on Thursday (April 2, 2026). Rahul Gandhi had come here to campaign in support of Congress candidate Pran Kurmi.
Titabar is considered a Congress stronghold, from where former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had led Assam for three consecutive terms by winning elections several times.
Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the public meeting
While addressing the gathering, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said that whatever has been snatched from the public will have to be returned and the Chief Minister will have to apologize for this. He said, ‘Whatever has been taken from the public, it will have to be returned. The Chief Minister will have to apologise, but mere apology will not suffice – we will take recourse to the law. Wherever he goes, near or far, he will be held accountable. No matter how much we shout or jump, we cannot escape the law.
Rahul Gandhi said while mentioning Bharat Jodo Yatra
Referring to the cultural heritage of Assam, Rahul Gandhi said that this land belongs to great personalities like Srimant Sankardev, Bhupen Hazarika, Jyoti Prasad Aggarwala and Zubin Garg, who always gave the message of love, unity and honesty. Referring to his journey Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said, ‘We talked about spreading love across the country. The people of Assam also believe in the same sentiment, but the Chief Minister here is far away from it and is only working to spread hatred.
Citing the example of Zubeen Garg, Rahul Gandhi said that he represents the true spirit of Assam. He said, ‘Any poor person who went to him would return with a smile. He always talked about unity and humanity.
Rahul targeted CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Rahul Gandhi alleged that Himanta Biswa Sarma betrayed former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the BJP government has failed to fulfill its previous promises. He termed the promise of giving Rs 500 to tea garden laborers (TGL) as completely false. Besides, the promises made to six communities were also described as incomplete.
He also alleged that the land of Assam has been given to a few selected industrialists and the decisions of the state government are being taken from Delhi. He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the policies of Assam are being affected under the pressure of the Central Government.
At the end of the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘This election is a fight between the thinking of love and hatred. Support Congress and form a government of the poor and the common people.
What are the five main guarantees of the Congress Party?
During this, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi announced five major guarantees from the party. in which,
- 50 thousand rupees for direct financial assistance and self-employment for women
- Justice on issues related to Zubeen Garg within 100 days
- Land lease to 10 lakh people
- Rs 1,250 monthly assistance for senior citizens
- Free health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh for critical illnesses
