The selectors wanted the Indian team to have only one captain in all three formats and Gill was considered the best option for this role. It was told in the post that Shubman Gill will take over the captaincy of the T20 team after IPL 2026.
When ABP Live investigated this claim, it was found that this news is completely false. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made any such announcement nor has any official statement from Shubman Gill in this regard. This news is completely fake and Suryakumar Yadav still remains the captain of India’s T20 team. However, in some recent reports, it has been claimed that due to poor personal form, Suryakumar can be removed from the captaincy of the T20 team.
