The International Cricket Council (ICC) has passed a big loan for the improvement of West Indies cricket. This loan was approved in the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) held under the chairmanship of Jai Shah in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The loan amount is US $ 12.82 million. If this amount is converted into Indian money then it becomes approximately Rs 123 crore.
This will provide necessary financial assistance to the loan board. The West Indies Cricket Board is struggling with declining earnings, depleted cash reserves and the possibility of another big loss in 2026. While giving the loan, ICC said that ‘this member is to support the board.’
No disclosure on loan repayment
However, it is worth noting that the loan repayment period, interest rate, security related arrangements or funding conditions have not been disclosed. Now it will be interesting to see how the West Indies Cricket Board uses the loan given by ICC to improve its cricket. This is not the first time that West Indies cricket has been provided financial assistance, the board has received such assistance many times before.
West Indies Cricket Board in trouble
West Indies cricket is facing financial crisis these days. Cricket West India’s audited accounts for the year ending September 30, 2025, showed an operating loss of US $ 28.14 million (about Rs 270 crore). In the last financial year, the board had registered an operating profit of US $ 23.12 million (about Rs 222 crore).
The board’s revenue is expected to decline from US $ 88.35 million (about Rs 850 crore) in 2024 to US $ 40.89 million (about Rs 393 crore) in 2025. This was a decline of more than 53 percent. Apart from this, expenses related to tour and tournament increased from USD 36.85 million (about Rs 354 crore) to USD 41.59 million (about Rs 400 crore).
