There may be a big change in the coming times for lakhs of students who dream of studying medicine and engineering in the country. The central government is considering that along with entrance examinations like NEET and JEE, marks of 12th board examination should also be given an important role in admission. There is discussion that in future, up to 50 percent weightage can be given to board exam marks.
At present, admission to medical and engineering colleges is almost entirely based on NEET and JEE scores. It is necessary to score only minimum qualifying marks in the board examination. But now the government is considering making changes in this system so that the entire future of the students does not depend on any one examination.
In fact, in the last few years, many controversies have come to light regarding competitive examinations. Paper leaks, evaluation irregularities and other issues related to the examination process have raised questions on the credibility of the entire system. In such a situation, new suggestions are being worked on to make the education system more balanced and reliable.
The team is preparing the report
According to reports, a 9-member committee constituted by the Education Ministry is preparing its final report on this subject. The committee believes that if board exam marks are also given importance in admission, then there will be less pressure on students to perform well in just one entrance exam. With this, school education will also become more important than before.

The committee has also suggested that the syllabus of entrance examinations like NEET and JEE should be brought closer to the school curriculum. This can reduce students’ dependence on coaching institutes and students studying in schools will also get equal opportunities.
This system can be implemented
Apart from this, consideration is also being given to giving students the opportunity to take the examination more than once and implementing a computer-based adaptive on-demand examination system in the future. In this type of examination system, candidates will be able to take the examination as per their convenience and the level of questions can be decided according to their performance.
According to reports, this entire proposal is still under consideration and the final decision will be taken after the Central Government receives the report of the committee. The report can be submitted to the government in the next few weeks.
