The Education Department has taken a big decision in the interest of teachers, headmasters and head teachers working in government schools of Bihar. The department has issued SOP (Guideline) to implement ‘Teacher Transfer Rules 2026’. Under this new order, the entire process of transfer and adjustment of teachers has been made very easy, transparent and teacher-friendly. A letter in this regard has been issued by the Education Department on July 21, which has now come to light.

The biggest relief is that for the first time, the stringent condition of minimum service period of 5 years for applying has been completely removed, due to which even teachers with less service period will now be able to apply for the school of their choice. Along with this, teachers transferred within the last 2 years will also be considered eligible to participate in this process.

Will get a chance to choose 30 schools

This entire process of transfer will be completed in 100% online mode through ‘e-Shikshakosh’ departmental portal. Teachers will get a chance to see the list of vacant posts and choose their preference (order of preference) of maximum 30 schools as per their convenience. Teachers who want transfer out of their district or division will be able to choose the option of 5 districts or divisions on the portal. The department will first adjust the surplus teachers, after which mutual and finally general transfer will be completed.

No forced transfer without desire

In this process, special attention has been given to the interests of senior, women and disabled teachers. Teachers who have completed 58 years of age on March 31, 2026, will not be forcibly transferred without their wish. In case of equal marks, female teachers will be given priority on the basis of their home block and male teachers will be given priority on the basis of their home district.

Apart from this, teachers suffering from serious illness or disability will get priority as per rules on the basis of certificate from a competent medical board. The cut-off date for calculating the entire service period has been fixed as 31 March 2026, while teachers working during the probation period will not be able to apply at present. Due to this commendable step of the Education Department, there is an atmosphere of great enthusiasm and happiness among the teachers across the state.
