Social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s health is deteriorating amid the ongoing hunger strike demanding the resignation of the country’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He has been on a fast unto death for the last 18 days. Meanwhile, a powerful leader of Bihar has cornered the government. RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari has appealed to the opposition to unite.

Last Tuesday (July 14, 2026), Shivanand Tiwari raised questions on the government’s indifference in this regard in his Facebook post. The RJD leader said that do not leave Sonam Wangchuk and the youth fasting indefinitely at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar alone. All the opposition parties of the country should stand with this voice of democracy.

‘Sonam Wangchuk is exceptionally talented’

Shivanand Tiwari says that even after so many days, the kind of indifference being shown by the government is worrying. Gradually the condition of the fasting workers is also deteriorating. Sonam Wangchuk is not an ordinary person. Call him a social worker, scientist or public leader, it is certain that he is blessed with extraordinary talent.

‘Their demands are not inconsistent or impractical’

Praising Sonam Wangchuk, the RJD leader said that she developed a new system of irrigation by creating artificial glaciers (ice stupas) from snow in difficult terrain like Ladakh, and contributed in the construction of such residences for soldiers, where the temperature is more favorable than outside. Popular films were also made inspired by his works. Their demands are also not inconsistent or impractical.

Shivanand Tiwari writes in a Facebook post, “The attempt to advance politics by showing fear to Hindus and creating hatred towards Muslims is neither a good sign for a democratic society nor for the country. India’s strength has been in its diversity, co-existence and social harmony.”

He further said, “I urge the government to seriously consider the demands of Sonam Wangchuk and her colleagues and adopt the path of democratic dialogue.

Also, I request all the political parties, social organizations and conscious citizens standing in opposition to the government not to leave Sonam Wangchuk alone.”
