Made debut with ‘Phool Aur Kaante’
Ajay Devgan is the son of late stunt director Veeru Devgan. Ajay was interested in entering the film world from the very beginning. At an early age, he started showing interest in the big screen. However, he did not want to become an actor but a filmmaker. But fate had decided that he would become an actor. Ajay made his debut as a lead actor at the age of 22 with the 1991 film ‘Phool Aur Kaante’. The film, directed by Sandesh Kohli, did well at the box office and Ajay became a star overnight.

How did Anil Kapoor suffer loss?
While Ajay’s film Phool Aur Kaante was released in November 1991, Anil Kapoor’s film ‘Lamhe’ also hit the big screen during the same period. Veteran actress Sridevi was in the lead role with Anil in the film. Both had become big stars by then. It was expected that this film would do wonders, but Anil and Sridevi’s stardom faded in front of Ajay’s magic.

Ajay Devgan had told in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ that Anil Kapoor had met him at the premiere of the film and explained to him not to release his film Phool Aur Kaante before Lamhe. Anil had argued that the cast, director and producer are also new and in such a situation it could prove to be a big risk. But, after the release of the films, the matter turned upside down. Lamhe was badly hit and Ajay’s film entered the hearts of the audience. Lamhe was tagged as an average film at the box office.
