An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred in the Philippines on Monday (May 7) morning. The earth trembled thrice within an hour in the morning. Strong tremors shook people. Videos of the massive devastation caused by the earthquake have also surfaced, showing horrifying scenes ranging from buildings to offices and schools turning into debris. In some areas, walls of houses shook and there were reports of goods falling. At least 12 people have died and more than 200 have been injured in a powerful earthquake in the Philippines.
The Institute of Seismology and Volcanology of the Philippines has appealed to the people to remain alert. The institute has said that the possibility of aftershocks after the earthquake cannot be ruled out. Citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions and follow the instructions of the local administration. Teams are being sent to the affected areas to assess the damage.
