How Many Times Can Cancer Return: Actor Sharib Hasmi and his wife Nasreen are currently fighting the toughest battle of life. Nasreen has once again been affected by cancer and this time the disease has returned for the sixth time. The return of cancer even after long treatment and many surgeries is raising questions in people’s minds that how many times can cancer come back and is it always possible to get rid of it completely.

When did Nasreen get cancer for the first time?

Nasreen was first diagnosed with mouth cancer in August 2018. After this he underwent five major surgeries to remove the tumor. After the last surgery in September 2024, his condition was said to be better and the disease was under control, but the cancer returned in February. This time the disease has become more serious than before and has spread to many parts of the body.

Cancer spread to lungs, bones and around heart and liver

Sharib Hashmi told that initially the family thought that Nasreen’s continuous cough was due to bad air. The X-ray report also came back normal, but later when there was a ulcer in the mouth, the doctors advised to undergo biopsy and scan. The investigation revealed that the cancer has now spread to the lungs, bones and around the heart and liver. Currently, Nasreen is undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy, because surgery is no longer considered possible.

How many times can cancer come back?

According to the American Cancer Society, an organization that provides information about cancer, when cancer is not visible for some time after treatment and then returns, it is called cancer recurrence. It may return to the same place where it was before or spread to another part of the body. Experts generally consider it to be a recurrence when the disease is not visible for at least a year and then appears again.

Does cancer return due to improper treatment?

According to the report of webmd, cancer returns again because even after treatment, some cells remain in the body. These cells slowly start growing again and with time can take the form of a tumor. This does not mean that the earlier treatment was wrong. Sometimes cancer cells are so stubborn that they survive even after strong treatment. According to experts, the risk of recurrence is higher in some types of cancer. According to reports, the disease may return in about 7 out of 10 women suffering from ovarian cancer. At the same time, in many patients with colorectal cancer, there is a risk of cancer returning within the first three years of surgery.

A study by the American Cancer Society found that most people who have suffered from cancer live with the fear that the disease may return. However, doctors say that treatment is continuously improving and with the help of proper treatment, many patients are able to live a normal life for a long time. However, it is not known how many times each cancer may return.
