US MP Chris Murphy strongly criticized the President over Donald Trump’s threat to Oman. He said that this is an indication that the current conflicts related to Iran have now become out of control. Murphy’s reaction came after Trump on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) threatened Oman during the ongoing talks with Iran on opening the Strait of Hormuz, saying that no country will be allowed to control this strategic waterway.

Murphy also noted that Oman is a close ally of the US and a key mediator in diplomatic talks with Iran. He further said, “They (Trump administration) are in constant panic and are making mistakes one after another.” On Thursday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant also warned that Washington would strongly target any party involved in collecting tolls from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Besant said in a post on X that the US government will not tolerate any efforts to implement a toll system in Hormuz. In particular, Oman should be aware that the US Treasury Department will vigorously target any party directly or indirectly involved in the imposition of tolls in Hormuz, and any such accomplice will be punished. He further said that Tehran’s days of terrorizing the region and the world are now over.
