Commonwealth Games 2026: PM Modi congratulated Mirabai Chanu on scoring a hat-trick of gold.

Mirabai Chanu has created history by winning a medal in the fourth consecutive Commonwealth Games. He has won the gold medal in weightlifting for the last three times. Mirabai won the gold medal in the 48 kg weight category in the Commonwealth Games 2026. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated him on this historic victory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Mirabai Chanu as a source of inspiration for every Indian. He said through social media, “Another new chapter has been added to Indian weightlifting. He has inspired every Indian by winning consecutive gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and a total of fourth medal in these games. Congratulations to him on this historic victory and best wishes for the challenges ahead.”

Mirabai Chanu has achieved the feat of winning medals in the Commonwealth Games four times in a row. In 2014 he won the silver medal. After that, he has won the gold medal all three times in the 2018, 2022 and now 2026 Commonwealth Games. On Sunday, in the 48 kg weight category, he created history by lifting 85 kg in the snatch round and 105 kg in the clean and jerk round. He created different Commonwealth Games records in both the rounds.

Mirabai Chanu is one of India’s most successful weightlifters. She was a silver medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and stood fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympics. She has also once been the world champion of weightlifting in the 48 kg weight category.
