- Update apps only on Wi-Fi, save mobile data.
Mobile Data: Nowadays, mobile data has become an important part of our everyday life. Be it scrolling through social media, attending online classes or making video calls, every task seems incomplete without the internet. But many people are worried that their mobile data gets exhausted very quickly. Especially those using 1GB or 1.5GB plans start worrying about running out of data in the evening. The good thing is that there are some hidden settings in the phone, by turning on which you can save your internet data for a long time.
Turn off background data immediately
There are many apps which keep consuming internet in the background even when the phone is not in use. This is the reason why data starts getting exhausted rapidly even without using it much. To stop this, go to the phone’s settings and turn off the Background Data or Background App Refresh option. With this, only those apps which you open will use the internet.
Data Saver Mode will do wonders
Data Saver or Low Data Mode feature is available in both Android and iPhone. As soon as you turn on this feature, the phone automatically reduces unnecessary internet usage. Apps do not auto update and background sync is also limited. This saves a lot of data and your internet lasts longer.
Change WhatsApp and Instagram settings
Today, social media apps consume the most data. Especially apps like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook download photos and videos automatically. Because of this the internet ends rapidly. Go to WhatsApp and turn off Media Auto Download and turn on Use Less Mobile Data option in Instagram. By doing this the videos will load with less data.
It is necessary to stop HD video streaming
YouTube, Netflix and other OTT apps often play videos in HD quality, which consumes a lot of data. If you watch videos on mobile data, keep the video quality at 480p or Auto mode. With this, the video will play smoothly and data will also be consumed less.
Save Internet with Auto App Update
Many times Google Play Store or App Store keeps updating apps in the background. Large app updates can wipe out all your data. Therefore, go to the settings of Play Store and select Auto Update Apps Over Wi-Fi Only option. This will update apps only on Wi-Fi.
Use Lite Mode in Browser
If you do a lot of internet browsing then you can turn on Lite Mode or Data Saving feature of Chrome Browser. It compresses the web page and loads it with less data. Even in weak networks, pages open quickly and data is saved.
If you change these small settings, your mobile data can last much longer than before. Many times the problem is not about the big plan, but about the wrong settings of the phone. With a little understanding, you can use the internet comfortably throughout the day even with less data.
