US President Donald Trump has praised Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni. The US President, who arrived in Ankara, described the Italian leader as a ‘good person’, but also criticized her for not helping in the war with Iran. Relations between the two countries had turned sour after Trump’s comment, but now after this statement by the US President, there may be some softening in relations.
Meloni was once considered a close ally of Trump, but relations between the two countries deteriorated last month when Trump said that Meloni had requested to be photographed with him during the G7 summit in France. Meloni denied Trump’s claim and accused Trump of fabricating the story. Not only this, Italy’s Foreign Minister had also canceled his visit to America.

Meloni had condemned Trump’s statement
This year, when Trump criticized Pope Leo regarding the Iran war, the Italian PM responded. In response, the US President condemned Maloney for refusing to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said- Our relations have deteriorated a bit
Trump said that his relationship with Maloney deteriorated a bit on the Iran issue because she refused to help us. “He refused to get involved, so that spoiled my relationship with him a little bit, but I like him,” Trump said in Turkish. I think she’s a really nice person. But I think he made a mistake.

Trump had recently shared Meloni’s photo
Recently, Trump had shared such a photo of Meloni on Truth Social, in which the Italian PM was looking at him. In the caption of this photo, Trump had written – ‘A restraining order is needed.’ However, Italy decided not to respond to this photo. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said, ‘Trump speaks for himself. We have an American president who loves to incite, especially on social media. We have decided not to respond to these comments.
In March, Italy refused to allow US military aircraft to land at Sigonella Airport in Sicily because Washington had not obtained permission from the Meloni government.
