After the end of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan and the first Test between England and New Zealand, ICC has released the latest rankings of batsmen in Test cricket. In the latest update, Joe Root has been deprived of the number-1 crown. Now England’s Harry Brook has become the world’s number-1 batsman in Test cricket. Shubman Gill, who scored a century against Afghanistan, has got a huge advantage in the latest rankings.
Brook moved to the number one position after scoring a half-century in the first innings during England’s 115-run victory against New Zealand in the first Test played at Lord’s. Brook became the number-1 batsman for the first time in December 2024. Australia’s Travis Head has come at second place. Whereas Joe Root has now slipped to third place. Lord’s Test was not good for Joe Root. He was able to score only one and eight runs in both the innings.
Indian captain Shubman Gill scored a century in the only Test played against Afghanistan. Thanks to this century, he has moved up two places to eighth position. Steve Smith of Australia is at number four. Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka has moved up one place to fifth position. Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is in sixth place. South African captain Temba Bavuma is in seventh place. India’s Shubhman Gill is at eighth and Yashasvi Jaiswal is at number 9. Dinesh Chandimal of Sri Lanka has moved up one place to 10th position.
