Why does food get stuck in the throat?
Doctors say that there is a part in our throat called epiglottis, which is responsible for maintaining the balance between the food pipe and the windpipe. When a person talks, laughs or swallows too fast while eating, a piece of food can go the wrong way and get stuck in the windpipe. In such a situation, difficulty in breathing starts.
What to do if food gets stuck in someone’s throat?
According to experts, if food gets stuck in a person’s throat and he is unable to cough, then he should be asked to cough continuously. Because many times the stuck object comes out. If the situation is serious, the person can be bent forward and patted firmly on the upper back. Apart from this, an expert person can also use Heimlich maneuver. In this process, pressure is applied on the upper part of the stomach by standing behind the victim, due to which the trapped object can come out due to the pressure of air present in the lungs.
