Makhana Vikas Yojana: Bihar government has opened a box of gifts for Makhana farmers. Due to which now cultivation of Makhana is going to become even easier and profitable. Under Bihar Makhana Development Scheme 2026-27, the government has announced huge subsidy and financial assistance.
So that farmers do not face shortage of money anywhere from seeds to the market. Bihar which covers about 90% of the world’s total Makhana production. Now we are preparing to make this strength a global brand. The aim of the government is to reduce the cost of farmers and the right price for their hard work should reach their bank accounts directly.
Bumper subsidy on farming costs
Now farmers will not have to empty their pockets to start Makhana cultivation because the government has made provision for huge subsidy. Under the new scheme, the government itself will bear a major part of the cost of purchasing improved varieties of seeds and preparation for cultivation.
- If farmers use improved varieties of Makhana, they will be given direct financial assistance on per unit expenditure of farming.
- This help is no less than a boon for those small and marginal farmers, who were not able to start farming on a large scale due to lack of budget.
This step will directly benefit lakhs of farmers of Mithilanchal and Seemanchal regions of Bihar and will see a record breaking increase in Makhana production.

Help with processing and grading
The government has decided to give subsidy on modern machines not only for farming but also for processing and grading the Makhana to prepare it for sale. Now farmers will not need to sell their raw material at throwaway prices because they will be able to improve its quality themselves.
- The government itself will bear a significant amount of the project cost for the installation of automatic machines for breaking Makhana and grading units.
- Due to good grading and packing, the value of Makhana suddenly increases in the market, which will give farmers an opportunity to connect directly with big companies instead of local traders.
When Makhana comes out packed directly from the fields, both its shine and price will change the fortunes of the farmers.
