The massive fire incident in Vivek Vihar area has shocked the entire area. Nine people from two families, including a child, died in a sudden fire in a four-storey residential building in the early hours of Sunday. Preliminary investigation suspects that the fire started due to an explosion in the air conditioner on the ground floor, which was further fanned by strong winds.
According to local people, the fire spread so fast that no one had a chance to recover. Dense smoke filled the inside of the building, due to which people were trapped in their flats. The biggest problem was that there was only one exit in the building and the door to the roof was closed. Due to which all the exit routes were closed.
Grill was installed in the house to prevent theft
Neighbors said that the iron grills installed to prevent theft became a death trap in this accident. Many people could not go out because of these grills. Besides, vehicles parked on the road and narrow streets also hindered the relief work. A local domestic help said that when she came out after hearing the noise and siren, there was smoke and chaos all around. People tried to help at their level and helped the trapped people jump by throwing mattresses from the windows.

25 year old Vanshika was also among those who survived.
Also among those who survived was 25-year-old Vanshika, who told that her mother woke everyone up in time and the family came out through the balcony. He said that within a few minutes the house was completely filled with smoke and it became difficult to get out. Locals also said that there were already security flaws in the house and the need for an additional gate was felt, but no attention was paid to it. 12 fire tenders and police and DDMA teams brought the fire under control after hours of hard work. But by then nine people had lost their lives. This accident has raised serious questions on the security arrangements and structure of buildings in the area.
