- The opposition will surround the statement of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
The dates of the monsoon session of Parliament have been announced by the Central Government on Saturday (July 4, 2026). Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that President Draupadi Murmu has approved convening the session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from July 20 to August 13 to discuss and debate issues of national interest. However, with the announcement of the monsoon session, the discussion on a proposed amendment bill of the Central Government and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement in Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor has also increased.
Actually, the proposed bill is being discussed by the Central Government, on which the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is yet to come. Under this bill, after being in jail for 30 days, the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and ministers will have to resign from their posts. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of debate during the Parliament session regarding the statement given by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Operation Sindoor.
JPC meeting will be held on the bill on July 17
According to the report of news agency ANI, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigating the 130th Amendment Bill, 2025 will meet to accept its report on July 17, 2026.
According to the report, the JPC is unlikely to recommend removing the controversial provision of this bill, under which, if the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and ministers of the Center and States are arrested in a serious crime and remain in jail for 30 consecutive days, they will have to resign and if they do not resign, they will be automatically removed from their posts.
On the recommendation of the Govt of India, Hon’ble President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Monsoon Session 2026.

However, the JPC can definitely recommend some measures in its report, according to which, if this bill becomes law, it cannot be used for political gain or in bad faith.
What is the controversy regarding Rajnath Singh??
On the other hand, the opposition is also preparing to vigorously raise the issue of breach of privilege against Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in the monsoon session of Parliament, which is based on the controversy over his statement on Operation Sindoor in Parliament last year.
In fact, recently the Congress along with the allies of the India Alliance has accused Rajnath Singh of misleading the Lok Sabha. Congress says that the Defense Minister had said in the Parliament that no Indian soldier was martyred during Operation Sindoor, but later the official confirmation of the casualties by the government proves his statement wrong.
