KL Rahul and Shubman Gill scored centuries on the first day of India vs Afghanistan Test. While Rahul was out after scoring 100 runs, Gill completed his century a few minutes before the end of the day’s play. He is unbeaten after scoring 103 runs, so far in this innings he has hit 1 six and 11 fours. In the case of Indian captains who have scored the most centuries in Tests, Gill has left behind legends like Dhoni-Ganguly and has joined the top-5 list.
1. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is the player who has scored the most centuries for India in Test cricket as a captain. Kohli captained in 68 Tests between 2014 and 2022, during which he scored 20 centuries. 254 runs was his biggest innings.
2. Sunil Gavaskar
Between 1976 and 1985, Sunil Gavaskar captained the Indian team in 47 Test matches, during which he scored 11 centuries. As a captain, he is second in terms of scoring the most centuries for India.

3. Mohammad Azharuddin
Mohammad Azharuddin is at number three in the list. He captained Team India in 47 Test matches between 1990 and 1999, during which he scored 2856 runs. As captain, he scored 9 centuries in Tests.
4. Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar is the world number-1 batsman who has scored the most centuries (51) in Test cricket. But as captain, he scored 7 century innings with his bat. He captained India in 25 test matches, in which he scored 2054 runs.

5. Shubhman Gill
Shubman Gill’s journey as captain in Tests has been excellent so far, he is playing only his 9th Test as captain. Gill has scored 6 centuries in 15 innings. As captain, Gill played his first Test series against England, in which he scored 4 centuries. After this he scored a century against West Indies and now Afghanistan.
