Jai Mundra’s journey to Ireland did not start with cricket but with studies. In 2021, he moved to Dublin on a student visa to pursue an M.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication. Initially he went abroad for higher education and along with studies, he also continued his passion for cricket.
How did you get Irish citizenship?
After completing his post graduate studies, Jai got a job in a big technology company in Ireland. They become eligible to apply for Irish citizenship after living and working legally in the country for the required period of time. Following Ireland’s residency and naturalization rules, he took Irish citizenship in 2025. After this he became eligible to represent the country in international cricket.

Cricket career started in Rajasthan
Before going to Ireland, Jai had created a strong foundation of cricket in India. Jai represented Rajasthan at Under 14 level and also took training at Rahul Dravid’s Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Domestic cricket opened doors
Even after going to Ireland, Jai did not leave competitive cricket. He joined the famous Leinster Cricket Club of Dublin and played a big role in the club winning the Irish Senior Cup in 2023. Due to his consistently good performances, he later got opportunities to play with Leinster Lightning in Ireland’s domestic T20 and List A competitions.
Jai was included in the Ireland national team when senior fast bowler Josh Little was out due to injury. After his brilliant performance in the domestic season, the selectors gave Jai a place in the Ireland team for the T20 series against India.
