India has defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets. With this victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Team India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals have increased. Batting first in this match, Bangladesh team had scored 136 runs, in reply the Indian team achieved the target in the 17th over and registered an easy victory. Shefali Verma played an inning of 53 runs in a stormy manner for Team India. Just when the match seemed stuck, Jemimah Rodrigues wreaked havoc with the bat and led India to victory.
Shefali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues’ havoc
Team India, which came to chase the target of 137 runs, lost the wicket of Smriti Mandhana (8 runs) early. But that was compensated by Shefali Verma, who played a half-century of 53 runs at a stormy strike rate of around 156. This powerful fifty of Shefali gave a great start to Team India and she also made a valuable partnership of 45 runs with Yastika Bhatia.
Indian batsmen were seen struggling in the middle overs. At one time the team had lost only one wicket on the score of 76, but within the next 22 runs, the Indian team was on the back foot due to the dismissal of three batsmen. Even till the end of the 14th over, Team India was playing at a very slow run rate.
There was a drinks break after the 14th over and when the game started again, Jemimah Rodrigues started swinging the bat. Thanks to Rodrigues’ storm, after the drinks break, Team India moved towards a big victory by adding 24 runs in the next 9 balls. Rodriguez scored 26 runs in 15 balls.
Hope for semi-finals remains intact
After this victory over Bangladesh, India is at second position in the points table of Group A and has 6 points. On the other hand, South Africa has 4 points and its next two matches are with Bangladesh and Netherlands. It is easy for Africa to reach 8 points. In such a situation, India will have to defeat Australia at any cost on June 28.
