IPL 2026: Rutherford hits, team could not win at 71 runs in 31 balls, RCB beats MI by 18 runs

In the 20th match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) performed brilliantly and defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs. While chasing the target of 241 runs given by RCB, MI could score only 222 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians had a good start to chase the huge target of 241 runs given by RCB. The pair of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma appeared to be in good rhythm. However, due to a hamstring strain, Rohit retired hurt after scoring 19 runs and did not come out to bat again. Rickelton scored 37 runs in 22 balls with the help of 3 fours and three sixes. Santner remained unbeaten after scoring 8 runs. In bowling, Suyyash Sharma took maximum 2 wickets for RCB, while Jacob Duffy took one wicket.

Earlier, batting first after losing the toss, RCB scored 240 runs after losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli gave a great start to the team and made a partnership of 120 runs for the first wicket. Kohli scored 50 runs in 38 balls, while Salt played a brilliant inning of 78 runs in 36 balls. Salt hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in this innings. Captain Rajat Patidar appeared in excellent form and scored 53 runs in 20 balls.

In the last overs, Tim David scored unbeaten 34 runs facing only 16 balls, while Jitesh Sharma could score only 10 runs. In bowling, Boult-Hardik, Santner and Shardul took one wicket each for Mumbai Indians. This is RCB’s third win of this season. At the same time, MI has faced its third defeat in IPL 2026.
