The program organized in memory of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will start from July 4, 2026. According to the report of news agency ANI, Bihar Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will attend the event from the Indian side. Funeral programs are scheduled to be held in many cities of Iran from July 4 to 9, in which lakhs of people and many VIP foreign guests are expected to attend.
Iran had sent an invitation to PM Modi
Iran had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Iranian media, tribute programs will be organized at the Imam Khomeini Mosala prayer hall in Tehran on July 4 and 5. After this, the last procession will be taken out in the capital Tehran and the city of Qom in central Iran on 6th and 7th July, after which the last rites will be held in the north-eastern city of Mashhad on 9th July. On the same day, the late leader will be buried at the holy shrine complex of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims.
Died in US-Israel airstrike
Khamenei, who was the supreme leader of Iran for a long time, was killed in an airstrike by America and Israel on February 28. In early March, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was elected the new supreme leader of Iran. Khamenei’s death in March was said to be the result of a historic attack by the US and Israel. The incident was considered a major turning point for Iran’s 46-year-old Shia theocratic rule, while Tehran’s retaliation escalated tensions and conflict in many parts of the Middle East.
Four relatives of Khamenei also died
US President Donald Trump had announced the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at that time. Khamenei was 86 years old and had been ruling Iran with a strong hold for the last 36 years. Iran’s Fars News Agency, quoting sources, said that four of Khamenei’s relatives were also killed in the US-Israeli attacks. These included his daughter, a grandson and his son-in-law.
