16 people have been confirmed dead and 17 others injured in the collapse of an under-construction warehouse at around 12 noon on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) in the Taratala area of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. At the same time, till now 6 people have been arrested in this case.
Taking further action in this matter, the District Police on Friday (June 26, 2026) has registered a complaint against former Kolkata Mayor Firhar Hakim along with two former councilors of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Anwar Khan and Shams Iqbal.
Police gave information about the complaint lodged
Police said regarding the matter, ‘We have received complaints against Firhad Hakim and two former councilors Anwar Khan and Shams Iqbal. It has been alleged in the complaint that many illegal buildings have been constructed in the area and the role of the three in this matter should be thoroughly investigated. In such a situation, the matter is being investigated.
Complaint lodged after Chief Minister’s statement in Assembly
This complaint has been filed against Firhad Hakim and two former councilors at a time when two days ago on Thursday (June 25, 2026), West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari had said in the Assembly that the former board of Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led Kolkata Municipal Corporation had approved this warehouse project despite the design being full of mistakes. He had targeted former Mayor Firhad Hakim in the House without taking his name.
However, Kolkata Police has already arrested Firhad Hakim’s former Special Duty Officer (OSD) Kalicharan Banerjee in this case. Apart from this, a city court has sent Kalicharan Banerjee to police custody till July 4 after a hearing on Friday (June 26, 2026).
