These days, the eyes of lakhs of students, parents and teachers of the country are fixed on CBSE. After the recent major administrative changes in the board, a new face is now in the headlines. The Central Government has appointed senior IAS officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). At a time when CBSE is in the news regarding the evaluation system and on-screen marking (OSM) controversy, his appointment is being considered very important.
Let us tell you that Lokhande Prashant Sitaram is an IAS officer of 2001 batch. He is associated with AGMUT cadre. Before joining administrative service, he was known as a technical expert. He obtained BE degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pune University. After this he did Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai. That means he has a strong understanding of both the fields of technical education and management.
25 years of administrative experience
Lokhande Prashant Sitaram has about two and a half decades of experience in administrative service. In his long career, he has worked in many important departments. He has performed different responsibilities in areas like law and order, administration, policy making and operation of government schemes. He has been recognized as an officer who is considered capable of handling complex cases in a systematic manner. This is the reason why the Central Government gave him responsibility on many important posts.
Played important role in Home Ministry
Before becoming the Chairman of CBSE, Lokhande Prashant Sitaram was working as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Home Ministry is counted among the most important ministries of the Central Government, where work is done on national security, administrative coordination and many major decisions. While holding this post, he supervised many important matters. Given his vast administrative experience and understanding of policy making, he has now been entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities of the education sector.

How much salary does CBSE Chairman get?
CBSE Chairman gets a salary of around Rs 3 to 3.5 lakh every month. This includes basic pay of Rs 2 to 2.25 lakh along with allowances like DA, HRA and transport allowance. Apart from this, they also get government accommodation and other facilities. Varun Bhardwaj, Director of Higher Education Department, has also been appointed Secretary (Director level) of CBSE, giving new responsibility.
