Congress made a big announcement on Thursday regarding the Legislative Council elections to be held in Maharashtra next month. The party decided not to field its candidate in this election and announced to support Ambadas Danve, the candidate of ally Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction. This decision was taken after long talks between the leaders of both the parties.
In fact, this development has come to light at a time when signs of rift in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) were visible a day earlier, when both Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Congress had announced to field their candidates on the only seat going to the opposition in the Legislative Council elections to be held on May 12.
Uddhav group convinced Congress
Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal said that the Congress was of the opinion that Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray himself should contest the Legislative Council elections, but when Thackeray’s party made Ambadas Danve its candidate, the Congress had also decided to contest the elections. However, a delegation of leaders from the Uddhav faction met Sapkal and tried to convince the Congress.

Will fight unitedly against BJP- Congress
Harshvardhan Sapkal said in the press conference, “We believed that there is a need to discuss Danve’s candidature. Now we will support Uddhav ji’s decision and will consider it as the common stand of MVA. In the coming days, we will fight against BJP as MVA.”
‘Opposition alliance will fight unitedly’
He said that there was a detailed discussion on this issue, after which it was decided that the opposition alliance will fight the upcoming elections unitedly. Let us tell you that nine members of the Upper House of the state legislature are retiring on May 13, including Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray.
