NEET UG 2026 Counseling Updates: The Medical Council Committee has made many important changes in the counseling process of NEET UG this year. The aim of these changes is to make the admission process easier, transparent and completely digital than before. After the implementation of the new rules, many tasks related to seat upgrade, seat relinquishment and NRI quota can now be done online. With this, students will not need to go to medical college again and again and expenses will also be saved over time.
No need of reporting in college for seat upgrade
The biggest change made by MCC in the MBBS counseling process is for those candidates who get a seat in one round but want to upgrade to a better college or course in the next round. Now such candidates will not have to go to the allotted medical college and do physical reporting just to secure the seat. Under the new system, his existing seat will be safe in the counseling system and he will be able to participate in the next round for upgrade. This will provide great relief to those students who face problems in reaching far-flung colleges, financially or due to any other reason.
You can also do seat withdrawal online
MCC has also introduced online withdrawal facility in the counseling process, candidates who will be allowed to withdraw their seats as per the rules. They will be able to apply directly on the MCC portal within the stipulated time limit. Earlier, to leave the seat one had to personally go to the concerned medical college. Now after the implementation of the new system, this process will become completely online, which will save both the time and effort of the candidate.

NRI quota documents will now be uploaded on the portal
The process has also been made easier for candidates applying under NRI quota in deemed universities. Now the necessary documents can be uploaded directly on the online portal of MCC. Earlier, additional formalities had to be completed in the verification of documents, due to which the process became lengthy. At the same time, with the facility of online document verification, verification is expected to become more simple and transparent.
Important instructions for states also
MCC has also directed the counseling agencies of all states and union territories to make medical college seats, fees, available courses and other important information easily available to the students. Its objective is to ensure that the candidate can select the college and course based on correct information during counselling.
