After the scorching heat and heatwave in the country, now the south-west monsoon is slowly spreading its legs. The effect of this changing weather was seen in many districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai and Pune on Tuesday (June 23, 2026), where after hovering clouds since morning, there was heavy rain around noon. Due to this sudden rain, the weather of these places including Mumbai became pleasant and people got relief from the scorching heat.
In this regard, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of Maharashtra (including the capital Mumbai), Telangana and other parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand as well as some more parts of Bihar on Tuesday (June 23, 2026).
The department says that during the next 2-3 days, conditions are favorable for the advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of Gujarat, some more parts of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh and some parts of Madhya Pradesh. During the next 3-4 days, there are chances of further advance of monsoon into remaining parts of Jharkhand and Bihar and some parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy rain likely from Central to Northeast India
The Indian Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain (7-20 cm) over the West Coast, Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during this week. Apart from this, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over eastern Uttar Pradesh during the next 4-5 days and over Vidarbha, south-eastern Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during the next two-three days.

When will monsoon arrive in North-West India?
According to IMD, there is a possibility of rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad between June 23 and 29, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will see rain between 23 and 28. Along with this, there is also a possibility of lightning along with the storm.

Along with this, there will be rain in many areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab from 23rd to 26th June and 29th June. With this, winds will blow at a speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour in these states and there is a possibility of thunderstorm along with the storm. There will be rain in Western Uttar Pradesh on June 23-24 and June 29, and in Eastern Uttar Pradesh on June 23 and June 28-29 with wind speed of 30-50 km per hour and thunderstorm. Apart from this, there is going to be rain in East Rajasthan and Western Rajasthan between June 23 to 29, 2026.
When will it rain in Central and Eastern India?
According to the Meteorological Department, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Western Madhya Pradesh of India may receive rain with thunderstorms at a speed of 50 km per hour between June 23 and 29. Whereas there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorm between 23rd to 28th June and heavy to very heavy rain on 29th June.
At the same time, in Eastern India, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Andaman-Nicobar Islands and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha between June 23 and June 29. Along with this, there is also a possibility of strong thunderstorm and storm moving at a speed of 50-60 kilometers per hour in these states.
