Mother herself searched for the car that hit her son in Dehradun, police could not find it, now investigation will be done again

A mother, who lost her son two years ago in a ‘hit and run’ case in Premnagar area of Dehradun district of Uttarakhand, after tireless efforts of about one and a half years, has located the vehicle responsible for the accident, which the police had failed to find.

Lalita Chaudhary, resident of Sahastradhara Road, has submitted an application along with evidence in this regard to Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal, taking cognizance of which he has ordered a re-investigation of the case.

According to the information received, Lalita’s 18-year-old son Kshitij Chaudhary was walking on foot in Premnagar area on 16 February 2024 when a speeding vehicle hit him and fled from the spot. Kshitij was taken to the hospital where he died the next day. Lalita alleged that the police registered a case against the unknown vehicle but did not investigate it properly and closed it after a few months by filing a Final Report (FR).

Mother did not accept defeat

However, Lalita, who was determined to get justice for her son, did not give up and started efforts to find the accused herself. She collected footage from CCTV cameras installed around the incident site and searched through it for months to reach the vehicle that hit Kshitij. It was found out that the vehicle was a dumper, after which Lalita went to the RTO office and got all the information about that dumper.

SSP assured justice

Lalita met SSP Dobal on April 4 with the evidence and requested for re-investigation of the case. While issuing this order, the SSP assured them that the strictest action will be taken against the accused.

Permission will be sought from the court – Police

Meanwhile, Premnagar Police Station Head Naresh Rathore said that permission will soon be sought from the court for re-investigation. He said that after examining the new evidence that has come to light in the case, permission will be sought from the court to start the investigation, after which the investigation will be done again.
