Mother’s Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 1908
Anna Jarvis celebrated Mother’s Day for the first time on 10 May 1908. It is believed that the origin of Mother’s Day was due to a wish of Anna’s mother. Anna’s mother wanted that there should be at least one day dedicated to her mother and it should be declared a holiday. After her death in 1905, Anna Jarcis held a special service in the church and distributed white carnation flowers, her mother’s favourite. Gradually people started liking this day and Mother’s Day started being celebrated in different parts of America also. Anna worked very hard for this. He wrote letters to politicians and newspapers so that this day could get official recognition. Finally, in the year 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson announced to celebrate the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. After this this day started being celebrated all over the world.

When Anna Jarvis herself started protesting against Mother’s Day
Interestingly, Anna Jarvis, who started Mother’s Day, later turned against it. Actually, Anna wanted this day to be only for the love and respect of her mother, but gradually the companies made it a business. Companies selling cards, flowers and gifts started earning a lot of money from this day. Seeing this Anna became very sad. He also protested at many places and asked people not to limit Mother’s Day to mere show off and expensive gifts. It is said that he had launched a campaign to end this day.
Even today, Mother’s Day is considered the most special day of mother’s love.
With time Mother’s Day became a special day all over the world. In many countries including India, people celebrate this day for their mothers on the second Sunday of May. Some give gifts to their mother, some spend time with her and some just make her happy by saying a sweet thank you. In fact, Mother’s Day is not just a day, but an opportunity to feel the sacrifice, hard work and love of a mother. Mothers support their children in every situation and perhaps that is why this day celebrated for mothers is still very close to people’s hearts.
