Former West Bengal minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has broken her silence after resigning from all the posts of Trinamool Congress (TMC). He said that party chief Mamata Banerjee questioned his honesty and loyalty, which hurt him deeply. Chandrima says that when there was no trust in her, there was no point in continuing at the top post of the party.
‘You yourself handed over the party office to him’, hurt by Mamata’s allegation
Speaking to news agency ANI, Chandrima Bhattacharya said that Mamata Banerjee called her after the incident at TMC headquarters ‘Trinamool Bhawan’ on Friday. According to Chandrima, Mamata Banerjee told her, ‘You handed over the Trinamool Bhavan to her.’ This thing hurt him very much. He said, ‘After whatever happened on Friday, Mamata ji told me on phone that you handed over the party office to the rebel group. I am very sad to hear this. There was no need to say such a thing.
‘My loyalty was questioned, hence I resigned’
Chandrima said that she always had full loyalty towards the party and Mamata Banerjee, but when her honesty was questioned, she decided to step down. He said, ‘I even asked her how can she think like this? When questions started being raised on my loyalty, I felt that it would not be right to continue at the top post of the party. She further said, ‘Maybe sometimes I have been strict towards people, but my loyalty can never be questioned. With a heavy heart I decided to resign. Now there is no question of going to Kalighat again.
Internal strife increased after defeat in assembly elections
Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation has come at a time when the internal tussle in TMC has intensified after the defeat in the assembly elections. Different factions within the party are at loggerheads over control over the organization and party properties.
Got a big responsibility in June 2026
Chandrima Bhattacharya was made the West Bengal state president of TMC in June 2026. In his resignation letter sent to Mamata Banerjee, he resigned not only from the post of state president but also from all the posts of the party.
Name also removed from bank accounts and Election Commission
In her resignation letter she wrote that she was resigning from all existing posts in the party. He has also given up the responsibility of being the authorized signatory of various bank accounts of the party. Apart from this, he also withdrew himself from the post of authorized representative of the party before the Election Commission.
Expressed respect for Mamta even after resignation
However, despite the resignation, Chandrima expressed respect for Mamata Banerjee in her letter. She wrote that she will always have the highest respect for Mamata Banerjee and she will continue to respect her in future also.
Reached the meeting of the rebel group after resignation
Immediately after resigning, Chandrima Bhattacharya attended the meeting of the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee in the West Bengal Assembly. This clearly indicated that she is now standing with the rebel camp.
Despite being the Finance Minister, information about the budget was not available.
Chandrima Bhattacharya also made many shocking claims regarding her tenure. She said that even when she was the Minister of State for Finance with independent charge, she was not included in the preparation of the state budget.
She said, ‘Every year I used to present the budget in the Assembly, but I was not informed about what would be in the budget speech even a day before. I was informed about the budget only a few hours before its presentation.
‘Kept silent till now because of loyalty’
Chandrima said that till now she was not making these things public only because of her loyalty towards Mamata Banerjee. He said, ‘I was loyal to Mamata Banerjee, so I never told all this. But now when my same loyalty was questioned and I was held responsible for the capture of the party office by the rebel group on Friday, I was left with no other option but to resign from all posts.
‘I can tell much more, but I will honor the oath’
Chandrima also said that she can tell many more things regarding the functioning of the government, but being a former minister, she will not do so while respecting the oath of secrecy.
Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation is being considered a big sign of increasing internal strife in TMC. She has made it clear that the biggest reason for leaving the party was that Mamata Banerjee questioned her loyalty and honesty, which she could not tolerate.
