The discussion regarding the country’s biggest medical examination has once again intensified. The registration figures revealed for the examination which is going to be held again show that the competition is much higher than in other states. The number of candidates shows that the preparation and pressure for medical seats is continuously increasing in big states.
NEET-UG is considered the first step towards becoming a doctor for lakhs of students every year. This time in the registration for Re-NEET UG 2026, the same picture is visible that the number of candidates is much ahead in some states of the country.
According to the data, a large share of the total students who applied have come from some selected states, this can be understood from this. That the competition regarding medical education is not equal in the entire country. Rather, its impact is more visible in some areas.
This state remained at the forefront
RE- Uttar Pradesh remained at the forefront in the number of students applying for NEET 2026. 3,56,291 candidates from the state registered for the examination. From which it becomes clear that the number of students who want to get admission in the medical field is continuously increasing.
Maharashtra and Rajasthan were also major centers
After Uttar Pradesh, 2,22,905 students applied from Maharashtra and 2,03,470 from Rajasthan. These two states also made a big contribution. Rajasthan has long been known for preparation for competitive exams. Whereas the demand for medical and professional education in Maharashtra seems to be continuously increasing. The most interesting thing was that the largest share was recorded from these three states only. It can be understood from these figures that the demand for medical seats may increase further in the coming time.

Situation in other states
Apart from this, 1,56,061 candidates appeared from Bihar, 1,45,466 from Karnataka and 1,42,489 from Tamil Nadu. These six states together constitute more than half of the total registrations. Apart from this, the figures of other states are as follows.

- 1,13,609 from Kerala
- 1,09,527 from West Bengal
- 79,411 from Gujarat
- 73,058 from Telangana
- 65,790 from Andhra Pradesh
- 65,706 from Haryana
- 58,643 from Delhi
If seen at the regional level, the participation of Hindi speaking states of North India was highest. Whereas strong presence has also been recorded from the states of South India. Registration: Many states in South India have also required a strong presence in the North. This makes it clear that medical education seems to be becoming the first choice of students in different parts of the country.
