During his visit, PM Modi discussed many strategic and bilateral issues. At the same time, PM Modi also gave special gifts to Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. PM Modi gifts Shirui Lily silk stole to Meloni

PM Modi has gifted Muga silk stole and Shirui Lily silk stole to the Prime Minister of Italy. Muga Silk, popularly known as the ‘Golden Silk’ of Assam, is a rare and prestigious textile from the Brahmaputra Valley of North-East India. It is known for its natural golden color and simple regalness. This finest silk is produced without any artificial colors. Known as one of the strongest natural fibers in the world, Muga Silk is appreciated for its strength and durability.

It can often remain safe for generations. Its natural shine improves over time, while moisture-wicking and UV-resistant properties make it even more comfortable. Italy’s glorious textile tradition and timeless design heritage create a natural synergy in the grandeur of this ‘Golden Silk’ of Assam. Apart from this, PM Modi presented Shirui Lily silk stole to Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.

Features of Shirui Lily Silk Stole

The Shirui Lily Silk Stole is inspired by the misty hills of the Shirui Kashong Mountains located in Manipur. Shirui Lily is a bell-shaped flower whose petals are pale pink-white and which does not bloom anywhere else in the world. For the Tangkhul Naga community of Manipur, Shirui lily is considered a symbol of purity, identity and cultural pride. Therefore, this stole not only captures the beauty of Himalayan workmanship, but also contains the spirit of the local traditions and folklore.

PM gifts marble made of mosaic art to Meloni

The lily also has deep cultural significance in Italy, where it has long been a symbol of purity, gentleness and artistic sophistication and often appears in Renaissance artworks. There is a unique cultural connection hidden between India and Italy in this shared symbolism. At the same time, PM Modi presented a marble inlay work box made of the famous mosaic art of Agra as well as CDs of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and MS Subbulakshmi to Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

This marble inlaid box is a fine example of Indian handicraft art, which has a deep connection with the master artisans of Agra. ‘Mosaic’ or ‘Pietra Dura’ art is believed to have originated in the city of Florence in Italy, which later flourished in India under royal patronage, making it a wonderful bridge of art between the two countries.
