CBSE Second Board Exam: Positive results of the second board examination of class 10th, conducted for the first time by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), have also been seen. According to a report, after the implementation of the Best of Two system, not only did the overall pass percentage increase, but the pressure of a single board exam on the students also reduced. According to experts, this new system gave students an opportunity to perform better by learning from their mistakes.
96.78 percent overall pass percentage
According to the report, after combining the results of main examination and second board examination, the overall pass percentage of Class 10 for 2025-26 increased to 96.78 percent. After the main examination this figure was around 93.70 percent. Experts say that this increase in the overall pass percentage has been recorded due to the inclusion of students who were successful in the second examination in the final result and improvement in marks of a large number of students.
60 percent students increased their marks
According to the report, about 60 percent of the students who appeared in the second board examination were successful in improving their marks. These also included those students who were not satisfied with the performance of the first examination or due to some other personal reasons, appeared for the examination again due to the advice of teachers and parents.

The pressure of a single exam also reduced
Experts of the Education Department say that this system started under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has brought relief to the students. Now students do not have to completely depend on the performance of a single examination. The second exam gives them additional preparation time and they can perform better by focusing only on selected subjects instead of all the subjects. This also reduces the mental pressure of the examination.
What is the best of two names?
CBSE has implemented the best of two system for class 10 in 2026. Under this, if a student appears in both the board examinations, then the marks of both the attempts in each subject are compared and the higher marks of the same subject are recorded in the final marksheet. If the marks in the second examination are less than the first, then only the marks of the first examination remain valid. For example, if a student has got 74 marks in Mathematics in the first examination and 88 marks in the second examination, then 88 marks will be recorded in the final mark sheet, whereas if he has got 68 marks in the second examination, then only the first 74 marks will be retained. This rule applies subject wise, that is, improvement in one subject does not affect the marks of other subjects.
