Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a major change in the salary system of players. PCB has come up with a new formula for players’ salaries. According to the report of ‘Telecom Asia Sport’, in the new central contract model for the year 2026, five format-based tracks have been introduced in place of the old A, B, C, D categories.
According to the new formula, the top format, which has been named ‘Track AB’. This will be for those players who play both Test and ODI formats. Whereas ‘Track A’ will be especially for Test playing cricketers. Similarly, ‘Track BC’ will be for white-ball specialists (ODI and T20 International), while ‘Track C’ will be for T20 International and franchise specialists. Players taking training in High Performance Academy will get ‘Track D’ contract.
Recently, Pakistan’s performance in Test cricket has been poor, after which former players suggested to the PCB that it should be made mandatory for the players to play domestic cricket, especially first-class four-day matches, as this will help them prepare for international challenges.
Pakistan stood 9th and last in the third cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). Even in the fourth cycle, the team is at 8th place. Pakistan’s performance has also been poor in International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments. Pakistan team was out of the first round of T20 World Cup 2024, ODI World Cup 2023 and Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan could not even qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup this year. According to the report of ‘TelecomAsia.net’, Naqvi said, “To improve our level, we want all the top players to play in domestic cricket, players who do not play in first-class tournaments will not get central contracts.”
