Petrol-Diesel Price Hike: Today, on Tuesday, May 19, the prices of petrol and diesel were increased by 90 paise per liter, which is the second increase in less than a week. According to industry sources, petrol prices in the country’s capital have now increased from Rs 97.77 to Rs 98.64 per liter, while diesel rates have increased from Rs 90.67 to Rs 91.58 per liter. Last Friday also, oil companies had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by about Rs 3 per liter.

• In Delhi, petrol reached Rs 98.64 and diesel Rs 91.58 per liter.
• In Mumbai, petrol became Rs 107.59 and diesel Rs 94.08 per liter.
• In Kolkata, petrol was recorded at Rs 109.70 and diesel at Rs 96.07 per liter.
• In Chennai, petrol became Rs 104.49 and diesel Rs 96.11 per liter.
• The price of petrol in Jaipur has now increased to Rs 108.84 and the price of diesel has reached Rs 94.12 per liter.

Government oil companies are incurring losses

Indian government oil companies had not increased retail prices in the last four years. Due to the increase in the price of crude oil at the global level, these companies were incurring a loss of about Rs 1000 crore every day, to compensate for which the rates are now being gradually increased. After the increase of Rs 3 yesterday, the loss reduced slightly to Rs 750 crore per day. Now it remains to be seen how much today’s increase will help in bridging this loss.

Let us tell you that the prices of crude oil are increasing rapidly in the international markets, which have now crossed 100-110 dollars per barrel. Since India imports more than 85 percent of its oil needs from outside, the increase in global prices has a direct impact on the pockets of the common man.
