Petrol-Diesel: Today, on Saturday, May 23, the prices of petrol and diesel were increased again in the country. Petrol has become costlier by 87 paise, while the price of diesel has increased by 91 paise. This is the third time in the last 10 days that fuel prices have been increased. Due to this people have suddenly become shocked.

Long queues are being seen at petrol pumps in all parts of the country, people are gathering at fuel stations to get the tanks of their vehicles filled. Seeing the increasing crowd, people are becoming more nervous. Now Indian Oil has given its clarification on this.

Then why is the price increasing?

The company has said that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the country, the problems being seen at some places are for a temporary period. According to Indian Oil, currently the harvesting season is going on, due to which the demand for diesel has increased. Apart from this, due to high prices at some private petrol pumps, the customers there have shifted towards government pumps.

Big institutional buyers are also taking fuel from PSU pumps these days because the prices of bulk supply are very high as per the international market. Due to all these reasons, demand has suddenly increased in certain areas.

Supply normal amid increasing demand

Indian Oil said that between May 1 and 22, 2026, the company’s petrol sales have increased by 14 percent and diesel sales by about 18 percent as compared to last year. Despite such high demand, the company is maintaining supply across the country. The company has more than 42,000 retail outlets across the country and stock is normal at most of the pumps.
