In the monsoon session of Parliament on 29 July, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of violence and police action during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march of students on 20 July. He alleged that the Union Home Minister ordered to use pellet guns on the students. On this statement of Rahul Gandhi, the ruling party MPs stood up from their seats and strong protest started. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed strong objection to Rahul Gandhi’s statement and said that you have directly taken the name of the Home Minister. He said, ‘This is a very serious allegation. You will either have to apologize or explain on what basis you have made this allegation.
Uproar in Parliament over Rahul Gandhi’s statement
Rijiju said, ‘You show the copy of the order in which the Home Minister has directed any officer to fire or use pellet gun. Tell the order number and place the document on the table of the House. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also said that personal allegations cannot be made against anyone in the House without prior information and on the basis of facts. He asked Rahul Gandhi to discuss the bill and present his views only on the basis of facts.
Rahul Gandhi in response said that security forces are used only on the orders of the Home Minister and not on anyone else’s orders. During this, the opposition MPs started raising slogans of ‘Home Minister please reply’ and ‘Please reply’, due to which the noise in the House increased further.
