S Jaishankar In Bahrain: India reached the Gulf country where Iran fired missiles, S Jaishankar gave PM Modi’s message

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met Bahrain’s Ruler Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral partnership. Jaishankar reached Bahrain from Qatar in the second leg of his visit to four countries in the Gulf region from July 5 to 10. Kuwait and Oman are also included in his travel programme. Jaishankar said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “Feel honored to meet the Ruler of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Also had the privilege of meeting the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Jaishankar sent good wishes and greetings to the King of Bahrain on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also expressed his gratitude to Shah for ensuring the safety and welfare of the Indian community living in Bahrain. He said, “We greatly value His Majesty’s continued guidance in taking forward the India-Bahrain partnership. I thanked him for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian expatriate community in Bahrain.” Earlier, Jaishankar met Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and discussed enhancing cooperation between the two countries and developments in the region.

Jaishankar said in a post on ‘X’, “Delighted to meet Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Minister of Bahrain in Manama today. We discussed further deepening bilateral cooperation. Also exchanged views on the developments happening in the region. Jaishankar also interacted with members of the Indian community in Bahrain. During his visit, Jaishankar will meet his counterparts and top leaders of the four Gulf region countries to deepen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.

Why is this journey of S. Jaishankar important?

This visit of S Jaishankar is taking place at a time when the political situation in West Asia is changing rapidly after the agreement to end the US-Iran war. Before the ceasefire, there were missile and drone attacks by Iran on Bahrain. Along with Pakistan, Qatar and Oman have also mediated to achieve ceasefire. Indirect talks between the US and Iran are set to resume in Doha after the completion of week-long funeral rituals for former Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

During his visit to Qatar on Sunday, Jaishankar met Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani and reviewed cooperation in the areas of energy, trade, investment, connectivity and security. After visiting four countries in the Gulf region, Jaishankar will travel to New York on July 13, where he will launch India’s official campaign for the 2028-29 term on the UN Security Council. After this, he will attend the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting in Brussels on 14-15 July.
