Pakistan, which started mediating between Iran and America, is now facing questions. Donald Trump’s close MP Lindsey Graham has again raised questions on Pakistan’s neutrality as a mediator. Referring to Islamabad’s hostility towards Israel, he described its role as ‘problematic’.
This statement of the Republican senator has come when Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif rejected Donald Trump’s demand for Islamabad to join the Abraham Accords, saying that the country will not support any such agreement which is against the basic ideologies of the country.
Lindsey Graham accused Islamabad of keeping Iranian military aircraft in its air base. Also, the statements of Pakistan’s leadership were described as disturbing, which raised serious doubts on its impartiality in conducting mediation talks.
What did Lindsey Graham say about Pakistan on X?
He said in a post on X, ‘It has been clear to me for a long time that Pakistan as a mediator is a big problem. His enmity towards Israel is very old. It is certain that Iranian military aircraft are being kept at Pakistani airbases and the rhetoric of senior Pakistani officials against Israel is disturbing.
It has been apparent to me for quite a while that Pakistan as a mediator is more than problematic. Their animosity towards Israel is long standing.

Talking about the Pakistan Defense Minister’s words, Lindsey Graham expressed fear about Islamabad’s sentiments against Israel and sought an immediate response on Trump’s official position on his call to join the Abraham Accords.

He said, ‘Regarding the Defense Minister’s comments on the Abraham Accords, in which he said Pakistan would never join because they did not trust Israel – this clip may be a year old, but I fear the sentiment is new. In this regard, it is important that Pakistan now responds to President Trump’s call to join the Abraham Accords.
What did Khwaja Asif say?
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said in an interview to Sama TV regarding Abraham Accord, ‘Personally, I do not think that we should get involved in any such agreement which conflicts with our basic thinking.’
Questioning the credibility of talks with Israel, the Pakistani Defense Minister said, ‘How will you sit with those whose words cannot be trusted even for a day? Our stand is very clear that this is not acceptable to us.
Khawaja Asif also pointed towards Pakistan’s passport policy regarding Israel, in which he emphasized the country’s refusal to recognize the Jewish state. He said, ‘And secondly on our passport, we are the only country which does not even have the name of Israel on its passport.’
