Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century in the India vs Afghanistan second ODI being played in Lucknow. He completed his century in 77 balls, which is the 9th century of his ODI career and the first century as an ODI captain. After this, Ishan Kishan also completed his century in the very next over.

Afghanistan had won the toss and decided to bowl first, India got its first blow in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very second over. Jaiswal scored 4 runs in 9 balls. Captain Shubhman Gill, who came at number three, along with Rohit Sharma made a partnership of 87 runs for the second wicket, Rohit missed his half-century. On the score of 48, he was bowled by Rashid Khan. In this innings played in 39 balls, Rohit hit 2 sixes and 6 fours.

After Rohit Sharma stepped down from the captaincy, Shubman Gill was appointed as the full-time ODI captain of India in October 2025. He is also the Test captain. Team India is preparing for next year’s ODI World Cup and hence Gill is out of the T20 team.

Shubman Gill’s 9th ODI century

This is Shubman Gill’s first century as captain, but before this as a player he had scored 8 centuries in this format.

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan made a partnership of 224 runs for the third wicket. Ishaan was caught out on the ball of Nangelia Kharote in the 37th over, he had hit 2 fours in the first 2 balls of this over. Ishaan scored 125 runs in 79 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 9 fours.
