The political uproar in Tamil Nadu over alleged allegations of horse-trading by MLAs is deepening. The ruling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay) has accused the opposition DMK of trying to poach its MLAs and destabilize the government. On the other hand, DMK has completely rejected these allegations and has accused TVK of horse-trading.

This entire controversy has come to light after a complaint by a TVK MLA last month, in which the MLA had alleged that he was offered Rs 35 crore for cross-voting in the assembly. So far three people have been arrested in this case and the arrested people have connections with DMK leaders.

How did the whole controversy start??

In fact, on the last Monday of last month i.e. June 29, 2026, a TVK MLA N. Ilaiyaraaja filed a complaint with the police alleging that he was bribed with Rs 35 crore in exchange for cross-voting in the assembly.

He alleged that a person named Thirunavukkarasu contacted him and claimed to be a representative of the Indian Political Democratic Strategies (IPDS). He claimed that he was talking to the leaders of a major political party on their behalf. He asked me to cross-vote on a proposed resolution against the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, in return for which I was offered Rs 35 crore.

Along with this, he also alleged that after rejecting the proposal, he was also threatened not to disclose this matter anywhere and to anyone.

Which three people were arrested?

Following the complaint of the TVK MLA, a case was registered at D-1 Triplicane police station in Chennai and the police arrested the accused Thirunavukkarasu along with Naresh and Thiagarajan from Trichy district of the state.

According to the police, investigation revealed that Naresh had met V. Ashok Kumar, brother of former DMK minister and Coimbatore South MLA V. Senthil Balaji in Chennai. It was also revealed that Thirunavukkarasu allegedly carried out the work on this case following instructions given by Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar.

Kumar said that as per constitutional tradition the Governor should invite the largest party to form the government. He claims that the mandate is in favor of TVK and on this basis Vijay should get the opportunity to become the Chief Minister.
