Tata Punch becomes the country’s number-1 SUV, sales of Frontx surprised everyone, leaving even Creta behind

A big change was seen in the Indian SUV market during April 2026. Tata Punch once again performed brilliantly and achieved the title of the country’s best-selling SUV. The company sold 19,107 units of Punch during this period. Last year in April 2025, 12,496 units were sold. In this way SUV registered a strong growth of about 53 percent on annual basis. Punch’s compact design, better safety features and affordable price are considered to be the major reasons for its success.

Maruti Fronx increased tension

This time the most discussed topic was Maruti Fronx. The company sold 18,829 units of Fronx in April 2026 and secured the second position. Last year, in the same month, 14,345 units were sold. That means SUV sales increased by about 31 percent. Fronx left many popular SUVs behind in terms of sales.

Tata Nexon reached third place

Tata Nexon stood third this time. Its 18,126 units were sold in April 2026, whereas last year this figure was 15,457 units. SUV registered a growth of about 17 percent, but still it could not make it to the top-2.

Hyundai Creta sales decline

The month of April was a bit weak for Hyundai Creta. The company sold 15,291 units, whereas 17,016 units were sold in April last year. That means there was a decline of about 17 percent in the sales of Creta. There was also a slight decline in the sales of Mahindra Scorpio. In April 2026, 14,719 units were sold, whereas last year at the same time 15,534 units were sold.

Brezza and Venue also showed strength

Maruti Brezza remained at sixth position this time. Its 14,124 units were sold, although there was a decline of 17 percent in sales. On the other hand, Hyundai Venue made a great comeback and achieved sales of 12,420 units with an increase of 56 percent. Kia Seltos and Kia Sonet were also included in the top-10 list. There was a good growth in the sales of both the SUVs, due to which the competition in the Indian SUV market became more intense.
