Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Pachpadra in Balotra district of Rajasthan tomorrow on July 4 and dedicate the country’s first greenfield integrated refinery to the nation. This refinery project, built at a cost of about Rs 79,450 crore, is being considered a historic achievement not only for the energy and petrochemical sector of Rajasthan but also for the entire country. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate many other development projects worth about Rs 1.06 lakh crore.

Pachpadra Refinery has been constructed under a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan. This state-of-the-art complex has a refining capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), while its petrochemical production capacity is 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum. The refinery’s Nelson Complexity Index is 17.0, making it one of the world’s most modern and high-efficiency refineries.

Here, more than 26 percent of the total production will be of petrochemical products. This project is being considered a big step towards strengthening India’s energy security, increasing self-reliance in crude oil related products and reducing dependence on petrochemical imports. Along with this, the way for developing petrochemical and plastic park in Pachpadra area will also open, due to which many supporting industries will be established.

According to experts, this will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and will give a new impetus to the industrial and socio-economic development of Western Rajasthan. During the program organized in Balotra, Prime Minister Modi will also hand over appointment letters to about 54 thousand youth recruited in various departments of the state. These include selected candidates from education, energy, home, Panchayati Raj, transport, higher education, skill development, agriculture, information technology and other departments.
