The first T20 match between India and England has been canceled due to rain. In this match played at Chester Lee Street, Team India, batting first, scored 189 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, but due to rain, the second innings could not start. Team India’s match has never resulted in a match on the Chester Lee Street ground. This is the third time in the history of cricket when no result was found in Team India’s match on this ground. In the year 2002, there was no result in the ODI match between India and England.
Whereas in the year 2011, India had scored 274 runs in ODI while batting first, in response to which England had scored 27 runs but after that the game could not even start. Now even the first T20 match could not yield any result.
Abhishek-Iyer’s half-centuries
The Indian team came to bat first after winning the toss. 2 wickets had fallen for 6 runs, but Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer took over the Indian innings by making a partnership of 82 runs. Abhishek scored 59 runs in 24 balls and during this he hit fifty in 20 balls, the fastest fifty for India on the soil of England. Whereas Shreyas Iyer completed fifty runs in 38 balls, which is the slowest fifty of his individual T20 career.
Iyer scored 68 runs and thanks to Shivam Dubey’s stormy innings of 42 runs in 21 balls, the Indian team was able to reach the score of 189. It started raining even before the end of the Indian innings, which later became so intense that the match officials had to cancel the match.
