US Senator Steve Daines on Tuesday (July 1, 2026) shared the experiences of his visits to China and India and clarified the gap in America’s trust towards the two countries. He said that he does not take his phone with him while going to China, whereas he always keeps the phone with him while traveling to India. At the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit held in Washington, Danes said that this example shows the strong trust between India and America. He said that America should further strengthen its strategic partnership with India, especially at a time when the challenges related to China are continuously increasing.
Danes said, when I go to China, I don’t take this phone with me. It stays on my desk in Washington DC, but when I go to Delhi or any other city in India, I take this phone with me. According to him, this is not just an example but a sign of deep trust between India and America.

He said that America cannot be completely separated from China. Instead, Washington should adopt a strategy that strengthens relations with trusted countries and reduces risks. According to Danes, India’s role in this strategy is very important.
