Buying insurance online is a very easy decision, in this you can compare the plans and choose a plan that is suitable for you, that too in just a few steps. But for many people this experience becomes troublesome. This is because insurance portals use dark patterns on their websites, which are tricks that can mislead customers. Now recently IRDAI has come up with a way to end this game of fraud by insurance companies.

In fact, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has directed insurance companies and aggregators to identify and eliminate dark patterns within 15 days. IRDAI has strictly directed the insurance companies to ensure that the user interfaces on their digital platforms comply with CCPA guidelines within 15 days, and submit and submit their removal plans within a month.

What are ‘dark patterns’?
‘Dark patterns’ are designs used on apps and websites that mislead users. These designs also make the users do those tasks which should be done thoughtfully and comfortably. These patterns in insurance portals include making it difficult to cancel auto-renewals, showing low prices initially, and then adding hidden charges. Bombarding users with calls, emails or notifications forcing users to share excessive personal data. Due to this, many users get trapped and accidentally buy a policy which they should not buy.

IRDAI’s initiative will bring these benefits
This action of IRDAI will prevent sales from misleading in the insurance sector. This action is beneficial for the users, because of this they will not feel cheated after buying insurance. Nor will you regret buying any insurance due to wrong information. After this new rule, this fraud of insurance companies will be stopped.
