In cricket, batsmen are often in the news for their big shots and record-breaking innings. But this time the headlines have been grabbed by a player whom the world mainly knows for his bowling. We are talking about Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Chahal accepted the ‘Score 100′ challenge by joining former England captain Kevin Pietersen’s popular YouTube show. The aim of this challenge is to reach 100 runs in minimum number of balls. Chahal achieved this target in just 29 balls and in the process left behind AB de Villiers’ old record.

However, there is an interesting thing associated with this achievement. This was not an official cricket match. According to the rules of the challenge, the player can continue batting even after being out. Chahal also got out twice during this period, but he kept getting chances to extend his innings. For this reason, his 100 runs were not completed in a single consecutive innings but in several attempts.
The format of this challenge is quite unique. The batsman gets a total of 50 balls. The speed of each next ball becomes greater than the previous one. Its purpose is to test the batsman’s technique, reaction and ability to play big shots. Many famous batsmen of the world have participated in this challenge.
This performance of Chahal is also being compared on social media to the historic innings of Vaibhav Suryavanshi in IPL 2025. Vaibhav had scored a century against Gujarat Titans in just 35 balls. Although that feat came in an official T20 match, Chahal’s record was made during a special batting challenge.
If we look at Chahal’s batting record in international cricket, he has played 73 ODI and 80 T20 international matches for India. A total of 83 runs are recorded in his name in these matches. Of these, 77 runs have come in ODI and 6 runs in T20 international cricket.
Chahal has played some useful innings in domestic cricket also. While playing for Haryana in Ranji Trophy 2024-25, he scored 48 runs in 152 balls against Uttar Pradesh. This is counted among the most notable batting innings of his career.
However, Chahal’s real identity has always been his bowling. He has 121 wickets in his name in ODI cricket, while in T20 International cricket he has dismissed 96 batsmen. 6 wickets for 25 runs in Bengaluru is his best T20 International performance. In ODI cricket, he created history by taking 6 wickets for 42 runs against Australia.
This new record of Yuzvendra Chahal may not have come in an official match, but it once again proved that anything can be seen from any player in cricket on any day. This player, who did wonders with the ball, was successful in making headlines with the bat this time.
