‘The mentality of clinging to power is a threat to democracy’

Santosh Suman said that Mamata Banerjee not resigning is an extraordinary case, which appears contrary to democratic norms and constitutional spirit. Accountability is paramount in a democracy and it is necessary to accept moral responsibility after public trust is attacked.

He further said, “In a democracy, the sensitivity should be towards the people, and not towards the corrupt and violent system growing under the protection of power. Now the time has come that the rule of law should be established in Bengal and the culprits should be brought within the ambit of the law. A thorough investigation into the cases related to alleged political-mafia nexus and international kingpins is also very important from the point of view of national security. No person or family can be considered above the law.” He expressed confidence that the people of Bengal no longer want politics of fear and violence, but good governance, transparency and development.
