Tomato Price Hike: Tomato, which is used daily in the kitchen, has once again started affecting people’s budget. There is a continuous rise in its prices in many states of the country. Tomato crops have been greatly affected due to inclement weather, extreme heat and slow onset of monsoon. This is the reason why its effect is now visible in the market too, where the prices of tomatoes are continuously increasing.

Tomato price increases, kitchen worries

Due to less supply of tomatoes from the major producing states of the country, the prices have remained high. According to the report, retail prices of tomatoes in the markets have increased by 16% compared to last month and by 23% compared to the same period last year. In such a situation, if you also use tomatoes in vegetables daily, then in the coming days you may have to spend more on your kitchen budget than before.

Why are tomato prices increasing?

The biggest reason for the rising prices of tomatoes is considered to be bad weather. Tomatoes are likely to become expensive in the coming months, especially due to less cultivation in the summer season and bad weather in many major producing states. At the same time, the total production of tomatoes will increase compared to last year. In such a situation, now the question is arising in the minds of people whether the price of tomato will now cross Rs 100.

Apart from this, tomato crop is highly dependent on the weather. It is often seen that if the crop in a big producing state is affected due to rain, heat or any other reason, then the supply in the market gets reduced. This is the reason why tomato prices often see a sharp rise during June to August and October to November.

Where is its impact?

Now the effect of expensive tomatoes is visible not only on the kitchen but also on the businessmen. Especially the hotel and restaurant business has now reduced the use of tomatoes, so that their pockets are not deeply affected.
